MONARCHS MATTER: A POLLINATOR CELEBRATION

  • Hoerr Nursery 8020 North Shade Tree Drive Peoria, IL, 61615 United States (map)

10am-2pm

Partner with Hoerr Nursery to protect our pollinators- not only butterflies, but hummingbirds, native insects, honeybees and more! Special guests include the Heart of Illinois Beekeepers Association and the Central Illinois Monarch Butterfly Taskforce. Get up close with live pollinators at this family friendly celebration, and get your kids involved in the children's activities.

Mike Contratto, Master Naturalist volunteer with the Chillicothe Park District, will be delivering two talks:

12pm: Monarch Butterflies

Learn how to attract monarchs to your own backyard, and how to care for them through their lifecycle. Bring a tomato cage with you, as he will be demonstrating how to make a DIY butterfly house!

1pm: How to help native bees

Learn about the yellow stripey things that aren't honeybees (not all of which have yellow stripes,) as well as how (and why) to make a home for them among your flowers.
