Fill Your Garden with Fruit

Whether your space is big or small, you can make it sweeter with our fresh selection of fruit trees and shrubs! Whether you're tucking fruit-bearing plants into your existing landscape or adding an entire orchard, here's a guide to highlight some of the special considerations you might have.
Cross Pollination
When picking out fruit-bearing plants, the first thing to consider is whether the fruit you want will require another nearby for cross-pollination.
Fruits and nuts that bear best with a partner include:
Apples (some)
Blueberries (some)
Elderberries
Pawpaws
European & Asian Pears
Plums (some)
Sweet Cherries
Pecans
Chestnuts
Almonds

Self Pollination
What if you have space for just one plant? Here are some fruit-bearing plants that will pollinate themselves:
Multi-Species Grafted Apples
Sour Cherries
Prune Plums
Peaches
Meader Persimmon
Grapes
Blackberries
Raspberries
Some Blueberries

Small Spaces
A 4'x4' plot of ground is sufficient for these small fruits. The blueberries can even be kept in a pot!

Red Raspberries
Choose an everbearing variety such as 'Heritage' or 'Caroline' for an extra long harvest. First year canes bear from September through frost, and second year canes bear in July, providing three months or more of fruit!

Blueberries
Many Blueberries are quite compact. Look for varieties like 'Bluecrop,' 'Polaris,' and 'Northsky.' Blueberries like acidic soil, so prepare the site with a soil acidifier before planting.

Thornless Blackberries
Thornless canes are a plus in close quarters! 'Chester' and 'Triple Crown' are excellent picks for a small Blackberry patch.

Sentinel Apples
The Sentinel Apples grow straight up into the air like a fruit-bearing pole, with a footprint of no more than three feet. You'll need either two Apple Trees (we have Scarlet and Golden Sentinel in stock,) or a white flowering Crabapple nearby to provide pollination.

Fruit bearing plants are one of the most rewarding edibles that you can grow! If you'd like more details about anything we've got in stock, feel free to reply to this email
