Fall Perennials You Need To Plant!

*|MC:SUBJECT|*
Fall is a fine time to establish new perennials, and we've got an autumn lineup of fantastic flowers to choose from!

New from Proven Winners

For rugged beauty and effortless grace, two new drought-tolerant stars have come upon the scene at Hoerr Nursery this year: Firefly Amethyst Yarrow (top left) and Cat's Pajamas Catmint (top right.)

Joining our lineup of colorful garden phlox with exceptional disease resistance are Luminary Ultraviolet (bottom left) and Luminary Opalescence (bottom right.) Give them sunshine, regular water, good air circulation, and stand back!

True Blue Gentian (center left) is a completely unique offering. Unlike alpine gentian, this carefully selected hybrid is bred to thrive in ordinary garden conditions, bringing its striking cobalt flowers within reach for the Midwestern gardener.

Autumn is the season for Aster. If your garden blooms its heart out all summer long, then poops out at the end of the season, add these cheerful little daisies to your lineup. They're just about to bloom, so take them home to enjoy!

Hardy succulents distinguish themselves all season with fascinating foliage, but autumn is when many varieties truly come into their own. Some, like Sedum sieboldii, have fall foliage color, and many stonecrop set billows of starry blooms until frost.

Dianthus are serial garden show-offs! Choose tall stunners like the Rockin' series of Sweet William (bottom left & right,) or dainty spreaders like Firewitch (top right) and Neon Star. You want scent, you say? Try Coconut Surprise (top left) or Georgia Peach Pie (center.)

Got shade? Spice it up this season with  Pretty-In-Pink Pulmonaria (top left,) the perfect plant for moist shade. Queen of the Prairie 'Red Umbrellas' (bottom left) is another moist shade stunner with red-veined maple type leaves and billowy pink flowers. Dolce Wildberry Heuchera features unbelievably vivid purple leaves, while 'Gold Heart' Bleeding Heart combines old-fashioned flowers with exciting new leaf color.  Dryopteris affinis 'The King' (bottom right) adds an intriguing twist to ferny foliage with its ruffle-edged leaves.

In gardens big and small, it's time to enjoy fall!

Since 1952 citizen scientists have tracked the monarch butterfly migration, providing invaluable information to researchers.

You can take part in this ongoing effort.

On Saturday, September 12th, join us at Hoerr Nursery for an event marking the monarch's annual migration back to Mexico.

Kid's Hour: 11am-12pm
We'll kick off with a reading of 'Señorita Mariposa' and a discussion of the monarch's migration to Mexico, plus a chance to view the lifecycle of the butterfly up close.

Monarch Tagging: 12pm-2pm
Cost is $1 per butterfly. All ages welcome!

Bring your family to Hoerr Nursery to pick out the perfect pumpkin! You'll find a unique selection of Hoerr homegrown heirloom pumpkins and gourds, plus autumn decor and fall annuals - everything you need to celebrate the season!

We will be closed on Monday, September 7th, in observation of Labor Day.
