Hummingbirds are back!
The first Ruby Throated Hummingbirds have been spotted in the Peoria area! Dust off that hummingbird feeder in the garage, or start afresh this season with a new feeder from our colorful 2021 selection!

Looking to plant annuals that attract hummingbirds? Salvia, Fuchsia, Cleome, Nicotiana, Mexican Sunflower, Lantana and Zinnia are among the absolute best!
Pop quiz: Is this plant dead, or dormant?
If you're eyeing that newly planted shrub from 2020 in your yard and wondering whether it will come back this year, you should know that digging up your plant may void your warranty!

Send warranty questions and photos to expert@hoerrnursery.com.

Be aware that shrubs and perennials that flower late in the season also tend to show signs of life as late as June. The list of plants to be very patient with includes Aralia, Aster, Balloon Flower, Black-Eyed Susan, Blazing Star, Bush Clover, Butterfly Milkweed, False Indigo, Goldenrod, Hardy Hibiscus, Helenium, Heliopsis, Joe Pye Weed, Rose Of Sharon, Russian Sage, Toad Lily and Turtlehead.

If you plan to fertilize  plants that are late to break dormancy, wait until after they're showing plenty of healthy, active growth, and remember- don't dig them up!
Treat rose black spot early for beautiful blooms!
Do you look forward to watching your roses bloom each year, only to see their beauty marred by black spot? Now is the time to nip it in the bud! Apply organic Copper Soap Fungicide on a warm, dry day just as the leaf buds open to control black spot, downy mildew, powdery mildew, rust, gray mold and leaf spots.

Healthy, vigorous plants are naturally resistant to disease. To give your roses a boost, feed them with organic Rose-Tone fertilizer throughout the growing season.

Your rose will benefit from wood mulch, as well. Wood mulch keeps the soil moisture more even, and prevents fungal spores from splashing up from the soil to infect the plant during heavy rains.

Don't resign yourself to watching your rose struggle this year. A little prevention now will allow you to enjoy a disease free plant this year! Ask for organic Copper Soap Fungicide and Rose-Tone in our Plant Pharmacy.
