Enjoy Autumn
with Annual and Perennial Fall Flowers!

Autumn annuals have arrived. Spruce up your garden for the changing season! You'll find Celosia, Ornamental Kale, Ornamental Peppers, Black-Eyed Susans, Red Fountain Grass, Ornamental Amaranth, Asters, and, of course, Chrysanthemums!
Anticipating Autumn Perennials
If your garden is missing fall perennials, you're missing out on one of the great joys of the changing seasons! Just as our thoughts turn to changing leaves and pumpkins, they pop up to surprise and delight us.

Green Team has spent the summer growing perennials for autumn, and now they're ready for you to enjoy! Here's a quick snapshot of some of the late season beauties you can expect to find at Hoerr Nursery this fall:
Top: Illinois native Black-Eyed Susans are among the most popular perennials. They're easy to grow, and they deliver armloads of golden flowers from summer into fall. Cutting stimulates more blooms, so clip all the bouquets you like!

Bottom left: Russian Sage thrives on neglect, providing masses of lacy blue-violet blooms from summer to frost. Until recently you needed a lot of room to plant one, but no more! Compact new varieties like Proven Winner's Denim n' Lace Russian Sage put this fantastic perennial within reach of gardens that need more compact color.

Bottom right: Although many Stonecrops show off their colorful leaves all season long, Autumn is the season when they really come into their own. Masses of bright, starry flowers appear above the foliage, attracting the last generations of butterflies, as well as passers-by!

Top left: The bicolor blooms of 'Arizona Sun' Blanket Flower seem to capture the last warm rays of the summer sun as the days shorten. Needs a well-drained spot, but otherwise very undemanding.

Top right: Aster and Chrysanthemum are a classic autumn pairing. Aster can be incorporated into your garden as a fall annual or as a perennial. Look for cool autumn annual options like Mumbo , or reliable and compact perennials like Purple Dome

Bottom left: Drops of Jupiter Ornamental Oregano is a unique and beautiful plant, with lemon-lime leaves that set off its generous sprays of plum and lavender flowers that keep coming from summer into fall. Pollinators love it! Although the leaves have less flavor than a culinary oregano, the tiny purple flowers make a neat edible garnish.

Bottom right: 'Fireworks' Goldenrod is covered with tiny, radiant flowers through to the first frost, with a form that's more suitable to the garden than its roadside cousins. It retains its native hardiness though, thriving in conditions from moderate water to wet spots.
Your garden will be richer with a wealth of autumn color! Visit Hoerr Nursery as summer draws to a close, and pick out the perfect fall plants.
