Dual Purpose Decor

*|MC:SUBJECT|*
It's the holiday season
at Hoerr Nursery!
Love the time of year, but find the decor part overwhelming? Entertaining for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, or hosting a combined holiday? This season, save time and effort with decorations that transition with the time of year. We'll show you how!

1. Pick versatile colors
A spectrum of colors and patterns can do double-duty in both fall and winter decorations. Here are some great options:
  • White
  • Cream
  • Blue
  • Green
  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Copper
  • Purple
  • Plaid
  • Burlap
By choosing bows and other accents that work for both seasons, you can focus on a few essential pieces to make the seasonal switch.

We offer a selection of bows and pre-made decor to fit all kinds of color schemes, and if you don't see what you're looking for, we can make you a custom bow at the ribbon counter!
2. Evergreens tie
everything together
Make the season merry with fresh, fragrant evergreen boughs! Greens are the perfect backdrop to both autumn and winter decorations, providing a smooth transition between the seasons.
Other versatile elements include pinecones, birch twigs and white lights, plus neutral colored ornaments and candles.
Living plants are a vibrant addition to indoor displays when the plants outside are asleep. We have plenty of classics like Christmas Cactus and Poinsettia in stock, as well as rarer plants like Candy Cane Kalanchoe and Frosty Ferns.
We also have Christmas Amaryllis and Paperwhites. Paperwhites can be forced to bloom even in the dead of winter, adding their snowy flowers and fragrance to January and February displays.

3. Color is key!
Once you have your basic décor in place, you can make it holiday specific with a few easy changes. For example, the table above makes the switch from Christmas to New Year with a simple color scheme shift that leaves the basic elements untouched.
Use autumn/harvest themed accents for Thanksgiving like mini pumpkins and gourds, or add neutral-colored ornaments for extra sparkle. You can also make a quick grocery store run for creative additions like whole spices & nuts, tangerines, pomegranates, cranberries and apples.
Switch over to winter by changing out the autumn accents for berries, brightly colored bulbs, and other Christmasy décor.
Porch pots will last all winter as long as temperatures remain cold, so you have the option of making a third themed transition at the New Year, exchanging the bright colors of Christmas for gold and silver, or more muted neutrals.

4. Relax, and enjoy the holidays!

Don't let decorations become a source of seasonal stress. Whether you grab one of our premade porch pots and wreaths or create one yourself from scratch using our fresh cut greens, the most important thing is that you enjoy the process!
